Solar connector

Solar connectors are standard connectors used in photovoltaic (solar) systems to connect solar modules to each other and to charge controllers or inverters.

PV solar connectors provide protection against moisture and dust, which is especially important for solar systems installed outdoors. They allow easy connection and disconnection of solar modules and provide a reliable electrical connection, minimising power losses.

Photovoltaic plugs have become the standard for solar systems and facilitate the installation and maintenance of solar modules.

Solar connectors generally come in two basic types: Male and female. These connectors are combined to create a reliable electrical and mechanical connection.

The main types of PV solar plugs include:

  • Plug: This is a plug with metal contacts that is inserted into a socket. It is usually connected to the cable from the output of the solar module.
  • Socket: This is a socket with metal contacts that accepts a plug. It is normally connected to the cable leading to the charge controller or inverter.

Photovoltaic connectors are usually standardised and compatible between different manufacturers of solar modules and components, which makes them practical for the installation and maintenance of solar systems.

Mounting solar connectors:

  • Connecting the plugs: Insert the plug into the socket and connect them, making sure that the positive and negative plugs match correctly (usually the pins are differentiated by colour: red for positive and black for negative).
  • Protecting the connection: Once the plugs are connected, you must ensure that the connection is safely protected from moisture and dust. This is usually done by using a special rubber seal that is placed around the connection and tightened with the built-in clamps.
  • Connect to the solar module: Connect the solar connector (with a cable) to the corresponding connector on the solar module. Normally, solar modules have two connections, one for the positive wire and one for the negative wire.
  • Connect to the charge controller or inverter: Connect the other ends of the cables (solar socket) to the charge controller or inverter, taking into account the positive and negative connections.
  • Tighten and secure the cables: Make sure that all cables are well tightened and free from kinks. Secure them to protect them from vibration and other external influences. Use cable ducts or fasteners to provide additional protection.
