Earthing cable 4mm² flexible H07V-K PVC single-core green-yellow for PV system

When you work with electrical installations or photovoltaic systems, you inevitably come across the topic of earthing. This is exactly what the earthing cable 4mm2 flexible H07V-K is used for. It is a single-core cable with classic PVC insulation in green-yellow, intended as a protective conductor in a wide variety of systems. Thanks to its cross-section of 4mm², the cable is ideally suited to equipotential bonding and the secure connection between components that have to be reliably earthed.

Materials and construction

The earthing cable 4mm2 consists of a finely stranded copper conductor. Copper is standard here because, on the one hand, it has very good electrical conductivity and, on the other, remains mechanically stable. The conductor is designed as class 5 to DIN VDE 0295 – that is, flexible, but not too soft, so that it does not fray when stripped or screwed into terminals. The conductor is surrounded by insulation made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride). The construction meets the requirements of EN 50525-2-31:2011 and VDE 0281-3 and is additionally standardised to EN 50363-3 for the PVC insulation. This material meets the requirements for a long service life across a temperature range from -30 °C to +80 °C.

On closer inspection, you will also notice that the earthing cable 4mm2 diameter with insulation is around 4.2 mm. This keeps handling manageable, even in tight junction boxes or cable channels.

Application in practice

Typical places of use for a 4mm2 earthing cable are photovoltaic systems, electrical distributions in the building or machine installations. In PV systems it is often used to ensure equipotential bonding between modules, frames and inverters. But the cable is also used as an earthing and protective conductor in classic domestic installations. It is intended for fixed and flexible installation exclusively within dry rooms and may be installed in conduits, under plaster or in closed installation systems.

According to the data sheet, a minimum bending radius of 4 × diameter applies to cables with an outer diameter below 8 mm. In practice, you should leave a little reserve so that the insulation does not suffer.

The fine-stranded structure ensures that the earthing cable flexible 4mm2 can be bent well without the strands breaking. At the same time, it can be inserted into standard protective-conductor terminals without any problems.

Another technical detail: the 4mm2 earthing cable has a rated voltage of 450/750 V AC; the cable is tested at 2500 V. In addition, there is the flame retardancy, which meets the requirements for fire behaviour to VDE 0482-332-1-2 and DIN EN / IEC 60332-1-2 – a safety aspect that is mandatory in installations.
