General Information
The D-Link DGS-1210-28P/E is a smart managed Gigabit PoE switch with 28 ports for 19-inch rack mounting. The smart switches of the DGS-1210 series are the latest generation of D-Link smart switches. With their versatile management options, they enable fast deployment and expansion of the network infrastructure as well as seamless feature upgrades.
The DGS-1210-28P/E offers 24 Gigabit ports with Power over Ethernet plus 4 SFP ports. The PoE ports supply devices such as IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP phones with data and power at the same time – over a single network cable. Separate power adapters and extra sockets at the installation site are no longer needed.
Function
The switch provides a total PoE budget of 193 watts across 24 PoE ports: 4 ports support PoE+ according to IEEE 802.3at (up to 30 W per port per the standard) for more demanding devices such as access points or PTZ cameras, while 20 ports deliver PoE according to IEEE 802.3af (up to 15.4 W per port per the standard) for standard IP cameras and VoIP phones.
Example calculation: 16 IP cameras at 8 W each (128 W) on the 802.3af ports plus 2 access points at 25 W each (50 W) on the 802.3at ports add up to 178 W – within the 193 W budget.
As a smart managed Layer 2 switch, the DGS-1210-28P/E can be configured and adapted to the requirements of each network. It offers much more control than an unmanaged switch without the complexity of a Layer 3 switch.
