HDMI Adapter
In this section of our online shop you can buy HDMI adapters for different types of connections.
The HDMI port on the back of your TV or Blu-ray player looks like this. It looks a bit like the USB port on your computer - only slightly bigger and wider, but not rectangular. The connector is designed so that HDMI cables only fit in one direction.
What this connection does
Cables transmit digital video and audio signals between devices. They support high-definition and ultra-HD video signals as well as surround sound. This means 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS soundtracks and high-definition audio can be found on Blu-ray players.
When to use this connection?
This is usually the best connection for switching most modern audiovisual equipment provided each device has an HDMI connection, of course! Most devices that have come onto the market in recent years already have built-in connections for this interface, older models may not. Remember that the HDMI connection carries video and audio signals and only requires a single cable.
There may be situations where you cannot simply use one such connector to connect all your devices. For example, you may have a High Definition connector on one device and a DVI connector on another. In this case, you can buy DVI-to-HDMI adapters (see illustration below) to switch one end of the cable from one type of connection to the other. So you can use a normal cable but connect an adapter to one end of the cable and connect it to the DVI connector.
Remember that if you use such an adapter, you can only transmit a picture if DVI, unlike HDMI, only supports video signals. In this case, you will need to transmit sound via another type of connection, such as coaxial or optical. A DVI device may also need HDCP support to transmit certain signals such as encrypted Blu-ray movies.
