SAT Resistors
A terminating resistor is an energy absorber at the end of a long cable, usually a resistor whose resistance is equal to the characteristic impedance of that cable. The terminating resistor is a matched load for a long line.
A matched load has the following useful properties:
- The travelling wave coming from the line is completely absorbed in the matched load, so there is no reflection of the wave back into the line. This means that there are no standing waves in the transmission line either.
- The input impedance of a line loaded with a matched load is equal to the characteristic impedance of the line.
